![]() At one point, her mother visits a university professor to help her crack a mysterious algorithm she found in the house. In contrast, The Cellar drags aimlessly past this scene, with any attempt to explain Ellie’s disappearance quickly devolving into empty extrapolation. Even upon rewatch, the 2004 short continues to feel fresh, an impressive exercise in inducing dread in the viewer as quickly as possible. Predictably, the one high point in the film is the scene that recreates the set-up of the short, wherein Ellie descends the basement’s steps. Drawn out and incorporating nonsensical occultist elements, The Cellar takes a great short and turns it into overwrought drivel. In this sense, it’s no surprise why the director felt the need to rehash this specific project-he’s simply trying to bank on the dread that effortlessly oozes from The Ten Steps. The Cellar’s narrative shortcomings feel all the more damning when the original short film was already so perfectly chilling. What follows is a dizzying concoction of a film, combining elements of investigative thrillers and generic Satanic silliness, neither connecting effectively to the other. When she gets there, however, there’s no trace of Ellie. She gets well past twenty before her mother ditches the office and races home. ![]() ![]() Oddly, though, Ellie keeps counting well past the tenth step. Her mother gets her to agree by promising to stay on the phone the entire time, guiding Ellie by having her count the ten steps down the stairs in the darkness. When instructed to go into the basement and check the circuit breaker, Ellie immediately tenses up and refuses. A few days later, however, Ellie calls her mother at work to let her know the house’s power went dead. Though she’s clearly traumatized by the incident, her parents brush it off as the cruel trick of a finicky old lock. After the family realizes a key hangs directly above the door frame, Ellie is quickly freed. Even with the voices of her parents reassuring her from the other side of the door, she begins to feel a presence slowly inching toward her up the pitch-black stairs. She frantically paws at the doorknob, which has locked solidly in place. Mere moments after stepping foot into their new home, Ellie cautiously peers into the basement, only to have the door shut behind her before the rest of her family can follow. Yet one room inspires abject dread as opposed to nostalgic mystique: The cellar. Her younger brother Steven (Dylan Fitzmaurice-Brady) approaches his new surroundings with predictable childlike curiosity, finding the old phonograph in the living room particularly intriguing. Their eldest daughter Ellie (Abby Fitz), conversely, thinks the house is an unparalleled eyesore, one that no amount of teen-appropriate room décor can even begin to alleviate. ![]() Mom (Elisha Cuthbert) and Dad (Eoin Macken) couldn’t be happier with their antiquated new abode, finding infinite charm in the worn-down floorboards and enormous reading room. The story begins where so many classic horror movies do: A family moves into a huge, historic house and creepiness immediately ensues. Aside from the one chilling scene grafted straight from The Ten Steps and its gorgeous, historic filming location, The Cellar just isn’t that deep. Incorporating a slew of plotlines-demons, Jewish folklore and a police investigation among them- The Cellar is erratic and unfocused, entirely unsure of the story it wishes to tell. Based off of his 2004 short film The Ten Steps, Muldowney’s latest expands the Satanic parameters of the movie’s plot, which unfortunately dulls much of the dread inherent in the original short. Irish director Brendan Muldowney’s The Cellar is an expansion of a project he completed nearly 20 years ago. ![]() This offseason, the likes of Anthony Schwartz, Rondale Moore and Jaycee Horn will try to beat that record at their pro days. He does have 10 touchdowns, but he hasn't been the dynamic, Tyreek Hill-type deep threat that the Bengals hoped they were getting.īut hey, Ross still holds the NFL Combine record for the 40-yard dash, so he'll always have that. In four NFL seasons, Ross has played in 27 games and has just 51 catches for 733 yards. Just ask John Ross, who famously logged a 4.19-second 40-yard dash and went on to be the No. MORE NFL DRAFT: SN's latest 2021 mock draft | Top 100 big boardĬlocking a fast 40-yard dash doesn't guarantee that you'll have a successful NFL career. And needless to say, those top-gear competitors will want to outdo one another to earn more attention ahead of the draft. Still, prospects are performing the drill at their pro days and while the spotlight may not be as bright at those events, there certainly will be a certain element of pride for the fastest players in the 2021 NFL Draft. The event will likely be back next year, but with the event canceled, the 40-yard dash hasn't been on center stage as much as it has been in the past. ![]() The league decided not to host one this year due to concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, during the 2021 NFL offseason, there is no combine. As such, 40 times are a big-time topic of conversation every year during the NFL Combine. Though the metric has little to do with the success of players at the pro level, football fans love speed and fast players. Football is home to some of the fastest men on the planet and this list will help their legacies live on.Every year in the lead-up to the NFL Draft, there is a fascination with the 40-yard dash of various prospects. The hand-recorded times will be questioned obviously, but that is something we can debate forever as sports fans. So, this list will include both hand-recorded times on top of those electronically clocked after 2000. However, we cannot forget about all the guys before 2000 who deserve their recognition. The NFL did not start electronically timing the 40-yard dash until the 2000 combine to ensure that the times are precise. Have you ever checked out Tom Brady’s combine tape? Do yourself a favor and look it up for a good laugh, but don’t laugh for too long because at the end of the day he has five rings. ![]() Furthemore, their have been players to run abysmal 40s, but go on to become superstars. Guys have had great careers after blazing through the 40, and some have also disappeared not long after. ![]() We often look at it too deeply and judge players on it more than anything else. The best 40 times in history are a mixture of some of the greatest players to ever take the field and some guys with names you probably have never seen in your life. They say you can’t teach speed, and the NFL is the league that puts this on display each and every year. A player can be the best at his position, but run a poor 40 and see himself slide in the draft. No drill at the NFL combine draws more eyes and hype than the 40-yard dash. ![]() Final Cut Pro uses the GPU to render your video for playback or export, and better GPUs will result in faster render times when you apply Effects and Transitions to your clips. Whereas a CPU is responsible for complex calculations, a GPU is built to process simple calculations quickly. The price increase is significant, so these options are generally reserved for professional studios with deep pockets. If you need to maintain full speed while working with 8K footage or 360-degree video, these higher-end processors might be worth the investment. With the release of Apple’s Metal engine, Final Cut is now able to take advantage of up to 28 cores at blazing fast speed. If you plan on editing in 4K and need a seriously fast machine, you might consider an 8 core i9 or above. For regular users and professionals on a budget, the Core i7 is a solid choice. So what CPU should you get for Final Cut Pro? For casual users, a quad-core i5 should be enough. If speed is not an issue for you, you can use older versions of Final Cut Pro X on Macs as far back as 2010-but you might find that frustratingly slow! Cores act as a multiplier, allowing your computer to process multiple tasks at the same time to get the job done faster.Īpple does not specifically list a CPU requirement to install Final Cut Pro or any of its companion software, so you should be able to run the program on any Mac that meets the other system requirements. Speed is measured in gigahertz (GHz), and cores range from a single core up to 28-core in the latest Mac Pro. When it comes to CPUs, the two most important things to look at are speed and cores. CPUs can also be one of the most pricey components in your machine, so it pays to understand the benefits you’ll reap from a high-end CPU. Better CPUs will result in shorter loading times, faster imports, and snappier responses when making trims and edits. ![]() ![]() The CPU functions as the central brain of your computer, and it has a big effect on performance in Final Cut Pro. This same OS requirement also applies to Final Cut Pro’s companion programs Motion and Compressor. Whether you choose Big Sur or Monterey, you will still be able to take advantage of the latest update’s Metal Engine, which offers a significant performance boost! Big Sur was released in November of 2020 and works on most Mac products built in late 2013, including Mac Mini, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, and iMac. These updates can increase your computer’s performance, security, and also add useful new features.įinal Cut’s latest version currently supports both macOS 11 Big Sur and macOS 12 Monterey, so as long as you’ve updated to macOS version 11.5.1 or later, you will be able to use it. Generally speaking, it’s always a good idea to update your macOS as Apple releases improvements and patches regularly. Depending on the type of editing you will be doing, you may need to go beyond the minimum requirements listed on their website, especially if you’re working with 4K or 360-degree video. Since its initial release, Apple has kept busy updating the software to keep it current and competitive.Īlong with updates and new features, the system requirements for Final Cut Pro and its companion software also increased. The second weekly activity we're introducing, which was also heavily requested by the community, is Dojo Leader rematches.Įach week, players will get the chance to re-match each of the dojo leaders they've already beaten during the campaign. Fishing at Nuru Lodge and a new, very special, Temtem We're also doing changes to the luma Temtem economy, introducing a new active way to hunt for lumas which allow tamers to chain encounters and improve their chances at finding one of these rare Tem variations. With this patch, we're introducing two new weekly activities and a daily one, all of which are a source for pansuns and several new items that are debuting in this patch too. Up until now tamers only had two options if they wanted to generate pansuns: releasing Tems and getting a reward from the FreeTem! organization or winning ranked competitive matches. The big focus of this patch is the economy. This patch was not originally planned on our roadmap and while working on this patch right now has an impact on our planning and the rest of the planned patches, we believe it's important to improve the quality of the current version of the game without having to wait for the game to be fully finished. Today we're releasing a new patch, and a very special one it is! Most of the features included in this patch are either suggested directly by you, the community, or generated based on current problems/feedback the community has. Temtem's bread and butter: economy changes are here. We recommend doing this before Early Access begins for PS5! We are super eager for all our console Backers to try Temtem as soon as possible, but as we said up there, this is a huge task and we need to know how much we can chew before we bite. We wanted to share some special words here, in our Kickstarter, because we understand this might feel like a betrayal to our Backers on other platforms, and for that, we apologize. Will you join us on this new and thrilling journey? A word for our Backers ![]() Read the whole post on Sony’s blog right here. We are both excited and scared, but we still want console players to bring in their voices, feedback and opinions, and help shape Temtem into the best game it can be. SeqTrace, a new computer program described in this communication, was created to help fill this gap. ![]() Although commercial software is available to handle these tasks, free software options are generally much more limited. If done manually, these steps can be very time consuming, especially for large projects. Paired forward and reverse reads of PCR products are also frequently used to ensure final sequence quality this requires aligning the forward and reverse sequences and determining a single consensus sequence from the pair. At a minimum, this involves inspecting each trace file to identify problematic sequencing runs, remove unreliable base calls, and trim the ends of the sequence. Modern Sanger sequencing instruments, however, generate “raw” chromatogram trace files that require further processing to obtain sequences of sufficient quality for downstream analyses. ![]() Many such projects require high-quality sequencing reads from a relatively large number of PCR amplicons. 2 Although high-coverage, high-volume sequencing has largely moved to “next-generation” technologies, Sanger sequencing remains a popular and indispensable tool for low-coverage sequencing applications, such as phylogenetic analyses or DNA barcoding efforts. Since its development in the late 1970s, Sanger chain-termination DNA sequencing 1 has become a widely used, essential technique of molecular biology. |
